Graduate Medical Education (GME) Expansion for Rural Idaho – FFY26

Summary

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (DHW), in coordination with the Idaho State Board of Education, seeks to fund one (1) lead organization to expand Graduate Medical Education (GME) in Idaho in accordance with statewide Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) priorities for FY26. The award targets expansion of existing rural residency programs and creation of new tracks, including but not limited to OB/Gyn, behavioral health, and geriatrics, to strengthen rural provider workforce. Agreement anticipates a single subgrant for $8,000,000 for FFY26. Implementation will support RHTP Initiative 3: Sustaining rural workforce with training, recruitment, and retention. Reporting requirements include approved implementation plans, partner agreements, quarterly progress reports tracking residents trained, rotations, incentives, retention documentation, and feedback from preceptors.

Eligibility

Idaho State Board of Education or approved entities capable of expanding GME in rural Idaho, as designated by the Department of Health and Welfare. Must attest that request is not duplicative or supplanting federal, state, local, or private funding.

Requirements Checklist

• Applicants must be capable of leading GME expansion in rural Idaho and provide verification that requests do not duplicate or supplant other funding sources. Must demonstrate capacity for oversight, coordinate new or existing rural residency tracks, submit quarterly reports of residents trained, rotations completed, incentives provided, and retention data, and secure partner documentation and feedback.
