Eligible applicants include small grocers and mobile market operators serving rural food deserts in the 18 state-designated rural areas of Maryland. Applicants must demonstrate an ability to improve healthy food access and address food insecurity.

Requirements Checklist

• Applicants must propose projects that expand access to nutritious foods in rural food deserts, provide budgets not to exceed $1.6 million, and detail timelines and anticipated community impact. Applications will be evaluated on clear potential impact across the RHTP focus areas, demonstrating alignment with CMS core principles of choice and competition, and capacity to empower rural residents to eat for health.
