Competitive, non-dilutive funding for early-stage medical technology startups and consumer-facing rural-health innovations addressing chronic-disease prevention and management across South Carolina. SCRA administers the fund under contract with SCDHHS.
U.S.-based and U.S.-owned for-profit businesses. Less than 10 years since founding and less than $50 million in prior funding raised. Registered as a for-profit business with the South Carolina Secretary of State; a Delaware corporation registered as a foreign entity in South Carolina may qualify. Must develop consumer-facing technology that delivers or enables care for rural communities, with a focus on chronic-disease prevention and management. Technology must address a significant unmet rural-health need and have a technology readiness level of at least 5. At least one full-time member of the management team is required. Preference is given to South Carolina-based companies headquartered in South Carolina or with at least 51% of full-time-equivalent employees in the state.
