Funds projects supporting recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals in rural Mississippi and creating sustainable support systems through activities such as recruitment campaigns, bonuses, residency and fellowship expansion, apprenticeships, internship development, and professional development. Four targeted grant tracks are available: workforce retention, secondary education medical career outreach, earn-while-you-learn programs, and preceptor expansion. Applicants must measurably benefit rural communities, and all awards support immediate workforce needs and long-term sustainability through collaboration among healthcare providers, educational institutions, workforce organizations, and community partners. Total funding available: $16,800,000. All activities must be completed within the approved performance period.
Eligible applicants must be organizations that directly serve rural Mississippi populations, including rural hospitals, CAHs, non-profit organizations, educational entities, workforce development organizations, school districts, community colleges, and universities. Applicant must possess a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN). See NOFO Section VI for more details.
