This solicitation invites applications for the OhioDENTAL Program, administered by the Bureau of Maternal Child and Family Health (Oral Health Program) under the Ohio Department of Health, as part of the Rural Health Transformation Program. The program aims to expand or establish mobile dental programs in Ohio’s 73 Rural Health Transformation counties, focusing on children in schools where at least 40% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch. Up to $14,868,000 will support up to 20 subrecipients to deliver comprehensive dental services in eligible schools and communities, prioritizing areas lacking a safety net dental clinic. Funded programs can use dental and dental hygiene students to expand workforce capacity. Mobile programs are reimbursed at $200 per visit for uninsured children. Programs must comply with CDC/OSHA standards, provide referrals for services not offered in the mobile setting, and report detailed demographic and service data to ODH. The funded project period is projected for September 7, 2026 – August 31, 2027, with optional renewals for up to four additional years depending on performance, need, and appropriations.
Eligible applicants include State, Local, and Indian Tribal Governments; institutions of higher education; non-profit organizations (including faith-based, community-based, and tribal organizations); and hospitals. Specifically, applicants must be dental associations, universities, public and non-profit organizations, community health centers, or federally qualified health centers based in Ohio. Applicants must have experience operating a dental clinic, hold appropriate licensure/certification for dental professionals, and be based in Ohio. Preference is given to independent rural-based applicants and those with Affiliation Agreements in rural Ohio.
