eDermatology's Founder and Clinical Director holds an MD and PhD, and is a practicing board-certified dermatologist and Mohs micrographic surgeon with 20+ years of clinical experience. Our Co-Founder and CEO holds an MBA together with 20+ years of experience in business and healthcare strategy, enterprise technology and operations leadership from organizations including Oracle, Deloitte Consulting and EY. Additional members of our team bring PhDs in biomedical research and master's degrees in AI innovation. Together, eDermatology's leadership brings clinical, technological, biomedical and business operations expertise and experience to solve the dermatology access crisis that currently exists in rural America.
The clinical evidence supporting store-and-forward teledermatology is extensive and well established in the peer-reviewed literature. A 2026 systematic review and meta-analysis published in Frontiers in Medicine, encompassing 155 studies and over 30,000 records, found 76% diagnostic concordance between teledermatology and in-person consultations across all skin conditions (95% CI: 73-79%). An earlier systematic review in BMJ Open (Bourkas et al., 2023) analyzed 44 studies and reported a pooled diagnostic agreement of 68.9% with a kappa of 0.67, rising to 71% when board-certified dermatologists conducted both the teledermatology and face-to-face evaluations. For skin cancer specifically, a systematic review by Chuchu et al. reported overall sensitivity of 94.9% and specificity of 84.3% for store-and-forward teledermatology assessment.
