# Georgia — Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP)

Georgia's Rural Health Transformation Program, part of the GREAT Health initiative, is in active multi-year implementation focused on transforming rural health care delivery through a federally funded value-based model. Major focus areas include telehealth expansion, Graduate Medical Education growth in rural settings, workforce recruitment and retention, public health advancements (notably newborn screening), behavioral and acquired brain injury services, and strengthening rural hospital capacity, technology, and emergency preparedness. The program is governed by the GREAT Health Advisory Council, with subgrants distributed for workforce, public health, and consumer engagement efforts. Current structured plan tracks 16 key initiatives and 12 strategic goals.

## Current progress

Georgia's Rural Health Transformation GREAT Health program remains in active implementation. As of October 2026, multiple subgrants have been awarded; funding rounds for workforce retention and technology upgrades have closed; and the Rural Graduate Medical Education Development Grant and Rural Simulation Mannequin Grant are currently open for applications. Program activities include subgrantee program launches, infrastructure buildout, workforce training and recruitment, and ongoing technology and public health initiatives.
